Role of Government

February 10, 2010

The government is ultimately responsible for the health and safety of the community, including the supportive institutions and systems such as the economy.

Notes

The balance of the various parts of the community is essential. A recent example is the bushfires in Victoria, where researchers from the La Trobe University had previously sent to the government (“Academics predicted Black Saturday bushfires“) a report that effectively predicted the effect of the Black Saturday fires. Unfortunately the report was ignored but it is an example of pure research that is essential for the well-being of the community but clearly would not have resulted from a commercial initiative.
